Signing up to the CAAR Research Database

The Centre for Applied Autism Research (CAAR) is based in the Psychology Department at the University of Bath. Our research is dedicated to addressing the challenges associated with autism and making positive changes that facilitate the autistic community’s full involvement in society. This research would be impossible without the help of our participants.

We need both autistic and non-autistic people who are interested in helping with research to register to our database of participants. There are many ways that you can get involved – some research projects are conducted online, and you can do them from anywhere in the world; other projects require participants to visit our research centre at the University of Bath. Participants may typically be reimbursed for their time when funding is available, and we can usually reimburse reasonable travel costs. Details about payment and travel expenses will be provided each time information about a new study is sent to you.

We only invite you to participate in studies that have received full ethical approval. We adhere to strict standards and regulations regarding the management and protection of your data.

Who can register as a member of the CAAR Research Database?

1.   Adults (people aged 18 years and over) with a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder e.g. autism, Asperger's Syndrome.
2.   Non-autistic people aged 18 years and over who would like to help research in this area.
3.   Parents/guardians of children who are aged under 16 years and (the child) is either non-autistic or has a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder.
4.   Young people aged 16 and 17 years who are either non-autistic or have a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder (we would need to confirm with your parent/s and/or guardian/s that they agree to your participation if you are under 18).

If you are aged 18+, you can register yourself and your children aged under 16 at the same time (if applicable).

What happens if you register as member of the CAAR database?

If you wish to become a member of the CAAR database, we will ask you to provide some information about yourself in this short survey. We will then contact you from time to time to tell you about research projects which may be suitable for you to take part in. You are under no obligation to participate in any of the projects. Any information you provide is confidential and will only be available to researchers at CAAR.

CAAR Newsletter

You will also be added to our mailing list for newsletters that we send out a few times a year to update the community about our research, events, and other news at CAAR.

You can opt out at any time by emailing caar@bath.ac.uk and requesting to be removed from the research database, the newsletter list, or both.

If you have any questions that you'd like to ask before or after registering, please email us: caar@bath.ac.uk
